Integrative Therapy
Every individual is a complex blend of past experiences, current circumstances, and future aspirations. Because no two people are the same, the therapeutic process should be equally unique.
Integrative Therapy draws on a diverse range of psychological traditions and modalities to create a tailored experience for each client. Rather than requiring the client to fit into one specific "box," the therapist adapts her methods to fit the client’s personality and the specific challenges they are facing.
Why the Client May Choose an Integrative Approach
The strength of integrative therapy lies in its flexibility. By combining different schools of thought, the therapist can support the client on multiple levels simultaneously:
-
The Cognitive Level: Addressing unhelpful thought patterns and beliefs through REBT.
-
The Emotional Level: Exploring feelings, self-compassion, and Inner Child Healing.
-
The Developmental Level: Using Psychodynamic Principles to understand how the client's history shapes their present.
-
The Internal System: Utilising IFS-informed parts work to harmonise the client's "inner critic" or "perfectionist."
-
The Somatic Level: Using trauma-informed tools like EMDR to calm the client's nervous system.
-
Schema Therapy: This modality addresses self-defeating patterns that often form when a client’s core emotional needs (such as safety, autonomy, or connection) were not met in childhood.
-
Exposure Therapy: This is a behavioural approach designed to help the client safely confront the things they fear or avoid. This therapy gradually and systematically introduces the client to the feared object, activity, or memory in a controlled environment, and the client’s nervous system learns that the perceived danger is no longer a threat and allowing the client to reclaim parts of their life that have been restricted by anxiety.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) utilizes bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, effectively reducing their emotional charge and shifting the client from a state of survival to one of adaptive resolution. Similarly, Multi-Sensory Trauma Processing (MTP) engages the client's various senses to ground the nervous system in the present, allowing for the safe integration of fragmented memories that traditional talk therapy may not reach.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a transformative, parts-based approach that helps the client understand their mind as a system of various "parts", such as the inner critic, the protector, or the pleaser, each with its own perspective and role. By facilitating a connection between the client’s core Self and these parts, the therapist supports the client in unburdening painful emotions and resolving internal conflicts, leading to greater self-compassion and internal harmony.
